Lee Child and Suzanne Collins Surpass One Million Kindle Books Sold

Child and Collins become the fifth and sixth authors to join the “Kindle Million Club”

SEATTLE--()--(NASDAQ:AMZN)—Amazon.com today announced that Lee Child and Suzanne Collins are the fifth and sixth authors to sell over one million Kindle books, becoming the latest members of the “Kindle Million Club.” Collins is the first children’s author to reach this milestone. The Kindle Million Club recognizes authors whose books have sold over 1 million paid units in the Kindle Store (www.amazon.com/kindlestore). Child and Collins join Stieg Larsson, James Patterson, Nora Roberts and Charlaine Harris in the Kindle Million Club.

“With Kindle, readers can finish one book and start reading the next one within 60 seconds – a particularly valuable feature when reading a riveting series and following the exploits of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher or Suzanne Collins’ Katniss Everdeen,” said Russ Grandinetti, Vice President of Kindle Content. “Our Kindle customers are avid readers of series, and we’re excited to welcome Lee Child and Suzanne Collins to the Kindle Million Club.”

“I started writing at the same time Amazon first went live, back in 1995, and it has been a thrill to move forward together through the years and through the generations of new technology,” said Lee Child. “I'm really delighted to have hit this current milestone, and I look forward to many more together.”

“What a lovely and unexpected honor to be in such wonderful company and see my books reaching readers in this exciting new format,” said Suzanne Collins.

Lee Child is the #1 internationally bestselling author of 16 Jack Reacher thrillers, including “Worth Dying For,” “61 Hours,” “Gone Tomorrow,” “Nothing to Lose,” “Bad Luck and Trouble” and “The Hard Way.” His debut, “Killing Floor,” won both the Anthony and the Barry awards for Best First Mystery, and “The Enemy” won both the Barry and the Nero awards for Best Novel. All of Child’s books have also been optioned for major motion pictures.

Suzanne Collins made her mark in children’s literature with the bestselling middle-grade series “The Underland Chronicles.” Collins continued to explore the effects of war and violence on those coming of age in the award-winning and bestselling “The Hunger Games trilogy.” Appealing to both teen readers and adults, “The Hunger Games” was first published in September 2008 and has appeared on the New York Times bestseller list for more than 140 consecutive weeks since publication. Film rights for “The Hunger Games” were optioned by Lionsgate, with Nina Jacobson’s Color Force production company producing the film and Gary Ross as director, and the film will be released on March 23, 2012. “Mockingjay,” the final book in “The Hunger Games” trilogy, was an Amazon.com Top 10 Customer Favorite for both print and Kindle books in 2010.

As with every Kindle book, Child’s and Collins’ books are “Buy Once, Read Everywhere”— customers can purchase these books and read them on the third-generation Kindles that start at $114 with the new high-contrast Pearl e-ink display, as well on iPads, iPod touches, iPhones, Macs, PCs, BlackBerrys, Windows Phones and Android-based devices. Amazon’s Whispersync technology syncs your place across devices, so you can pick up where you left off. With Kindle Worry-Free Archive, books you purchase from the Kindle Store are automatically backed up online in your Kindle library on Amazon, where they can be re-downloaded wirelessly for free, anytime.
