Veteran FA Advises a Rookie on Morgan Stanley Smith Barney’s Multicultural Financial Advisor Blog

NEW YORK--()--In the latest feature on the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Multicultural Financial Advisors Forum (MFAF) http://multiculturalfaforum.com, new branch analyst Tyres Jones II interviews Rodney Loo, a Wealth Advisor and Family Wealth Director in San Rafael, Calif., on his career and what it takes to be a successful financial advisor.

Mr. Jones, a recent graduate of Seton Hall University, is one of eight new employees in the Firm’s Branch Analyst Program – an initiative of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion – which offers a two-year paid rotation exposing analysts to different aspects of the Firm’s business operations. He talked with Mr. Loo, a top Bay Area Financial Advisor, who has been in the business since 1989 and lives the adage, “If you love what you’re doing, you’ll never work a day in your life.”

“I'm much more interested in learning about people. If you genuinely want to help people and you're intelligent and constantly seeking knowledge and bettering your game, I think you can do pretty well in this business,” said Mr. Loo, who also thinks the keys to being a good financial advisor are honesty and trustworthiness.

The Forum, which went live in January, offers multicultural financial advisors an opportunity to share insights and ideas about the work they do, the clients they advise, and the work-life balance they seek, and to be a useful source of information for people from diverse backgrounds considering a career in wealth management. It engages readers on a path from being a visitor to the site to becoming a potential candidate for hire, and seeks to stimulate an online conversation by encouraging participation and providing a forum for questions and concerns.

The blog features regular profiles of financial advisors and information about job requirements, how to apply, career development, weekly polls and a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section, as well invitations to recruitment and multicultural client events across the country.

It is patterned after the popular Women Financial Advisors Forum (WFAF) http://womenfaforum.morganstanleysmithbarney.com/, which showcases successful women FAs and explores a range of career issues and opportunities for women in financial services. Since its launch in June, 2009, the WFAF blog has been read by more than 85,000 individual visitors from around the world.
