OMAHA, Neb.--()--College baseball’s top sluggers will compete in the second annual TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby, which will be hosted at the new TD Ameritrade Park Omaha at 7:30 p.m. CDT, on Saturday, July 2, 2011. Immediately following the College Home Run Derby, the 27th annual Omaha World-Herald fireworks display will take place in the stadium. Tickets go on sale today at www.collegehomerunderby.com.

The College Home Run Derby will feature some of the nation’s premier power hitters facing off in an elimination-style format. Competitors will be selected from a pool of eligible players that have ranked among the nation’s home run leaders during the 2011 college baseball season. A watch list featuring these players is published each week in Baseball America, one of the nation’s most recognized authorities on baseball news. CBS will air the second annual College Home Run Derby at 1:00 p.m. CDT on Sunday, July 3, 2011.

In conjunction with the College Home Run Derby, TD Ameritrade has partnered with the Omaha World-Herald to continue another annual Omaha tradition. Nebraska’s largest news organization will present its annual Omaha World-Herald Fireworks show honoring Independence Day – this time downtown with the best seats in the house available to Derby guests at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. The 22-minute, world-class fireworks show will be the largest in Omaha and one of the most dramatic pyrotechnic displays throughout the Midwest over the Independence Day holiday weekend.

“After a successful event in 2010, we are pleased to once again host a line-up of talented sluggers – this time at college baseball’s new destination, TD Ameritrade Park Omaha,” said Fred Tomczyk, president and chief executive officer at TD Ameritrade. “If there is anything that Omahans look forward to each summer, it’s college baseball and an outstanding fireworks display. We hope that fans and families alike join us to continue these traditions and celebrate the efforts of an outstanding group of young athletes.”

“The Omaha World-Herald is pleased to partner with the TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby as we present the largest fireworks display in our 27 years of bringing this grand Independence Day experience to Omaha,” said Terry Kroeger, publisher and chief executive officer of the Omaha World-Herald.

Tickets for the 2011 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby start at $8 and are now on sale. Tickets may be purchased in-person from the Qwest Center Omaha arena box offices, by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000, or online at www.collegehomerunderby.com. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be collected and distributed among TD Ameritrade’s three major charitable giving initiatives: the Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity and the United Way.
