Northern Trust wins Global Custody Award for UK Pensions

Award presented at the annual Financial Times Business Pension & Investment Provider Awards

LONDON--()--Northern Trust (Nasdaq: NTRS) announced today that it has won the Global Custody award in the annual Financial Times Business Pension & Investment Provider Awards (PIPA). The award follows recent recognition from Global Pensions and Professional Pensions magazines which both earlier this year named Northern Trust “Custodian of the Year”, and further underpins Northern Trust’s commitment to the UK pension funds sector.

The PIPA’s recognise excellent service delivery by providers of products and services to UK occupational pension schemes. The four key criteria used to adjudicate were performance, innovation, service and competitive edge.

“Northern Trust is thrilled to receive this award for our work with pension funds,” said Penelope Biggs, head of Northern Trust’s Institutional Investor Group in Europe, Middle East and Africa. “We work with over 1000 pension fund clients across the globe, all of whom are looking for increasingly innovative solutions to help them manage changing regulatory requirements and satisfy demands for increased transparency and analysis, which we provide through our growing Retirement Solutions Practice.”

Northern Trust recently announced that its UK pension fund client base grew dramatically in 2010, with 15 new clients and US$43.9 billion in assets under custody. Northern Trust now provides custody and related services to approximately 34 percent of the top 200 pension funds in the UK and 36 percent of all UK Local Government Pension Schemes.
