27 Operating Metrics – Excluding the Impact of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act & One - Time Merger Costs During 2017 , our operating results were negatively impacted by one - time expenses related to our acquisition of County First Bank, as well as the enactment of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act which lowered the federal corporate tax rate to 21 % beginning in 2018 . As a result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, we were required to revalue our deferred tax asset position resulting in a non - cash after - tax expense of $ 2 . 7 million during the fourth quarter of 2017 . Additionally, we incurred after - tax non - recurring expenses of $ 0 . 7 million (consisting primarily of professional expenses) during 2017 related to our acquisition of County First Bank .
